God’s Word is our resource for the healing and health of our entire life. Here are four instructions from Proverbs for walking in complete health and strength.
Proverbs 4:20-22 - My son, attend to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their body.
4 Instructions From Proverbs For Health
4 Actions of Proverbs
In this, we see a perfect illustration of what it means to hear God’s Word and an understanding of how to receive the faith to attain what God has promised.
Attend to my words
Incline your ear to my sayings
Do not let them depart from your eyes
Keep them in the midst of your heart
Let’s look individually at each instruction to see what each means.
Attend to my words
To attend means paying attention. We are to pay attention to God’s Word. That includes not being distracted by other things but giving our undivided attention to God’s Word.
Incline your ear to my sayings
This means bowing your ear or bending down and listening to what God’s Word says. It means to be in a place or attitude of humility and to be teachable. We must be humble and teachable. It is impossible to teach someone who doesn’t want to be taught.
Do not let them depart from your eyes
In other words, our focus must be on the Word of God. Many things in our world try to draw us away from what God’s Word says, but we need to be diligent in looking to and focussing on His Word. We can’t look partly at the Bible and partly at other things.
Keep them in the midst of your heart
Get what God says into the depth of your being. Get God’s Word inside of you. The Bible says what is in your heart directly impacts your life. Proverbs 4:24 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. You cannot have the wrong thing in your life and live right; You cannot have the right thing in your life and live wrong.
Of course, every one of these instructions has the understanding of obedience to God’s Word.
To attend to God’s words, we must obey His Word. If we walk in humility and are teachable, we will follow what His Word says. If we keep them before our eyes, His Words will be what lead and direct our lives. Finally, if God’s Word is in our hearts, it will come out and flow into every part of our life.
