How to Be Saved
A Step-by-Step Bible Guide to Eternal Life
The Bible says in the following passages:
1 Timothy 1:15 - The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
John 3:16-17 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Acts 2:21 - And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE SAVED?
FIRST: It means to be born again and become a child of God. The Bible says in John 1:12 - But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
SECOND: It means to receive a new spiritual life and become a child of God. Paul wrote in the book of 2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. When you receive Christ, everything changes. Everything becomes new, and you receive a new life. John 10:10 - The thief comes only to steal kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. If you receive Christ Jesus into your life today, you will become a child of God. Galatians 3:26 - for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.
THIRD: It means to receive peace and have peace with God. John 16:33 - I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. Genuine peace only comes with Christ's forgiveness and salvation. Being in sin, you can never have peace in your spirit because you are at enmity with God. The Bible says: Isaiah 57:21 - There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” But through Christ, we have hope and live reconciled, no longer separated, but in peace with God. Romans 5:1 - Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
FOURTH: Being saved means to have fellowship with God. Yet because of sin, we are born separated from God. It says in Isaiah 59:2 - but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
THE PROBLEM OF SIN
It says in Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and in Romans 5:12 - Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned. Sin is the problem, but Christ is the remedy. Only Christ can save you from your sins. Matthew 1:21 - She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. CHRIST came into the world to bring humanity salvation, offering it to all and allowing you to be saved today. You can receive Him now. You can become a sincere and genuine Christian by receiving Jesus in faith.
HOW CAN YOU BE SAVED?
If you have never or are not sure if you have personally accepted Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and master, then follow the steps below to find your way to peace with God, forgiveness of sins, and the new life found living the Christ-life.
FIRST: Understand that you have sinned and are a sinner needing a Saviour.
Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
1 John 1:8 - If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
SECOND: Sincerely be sorry for and repent of your sins.
2 Corinthians 7:10 - For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
THIRD: Humble yourself and confess your sins to God.
Proverbs 28:13 - Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
FOURTH: Repent, turn away (forsake) from your sins, or put them away.
Isaiah 55:7 - let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Proverbs - 28:13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
FIFTH: Ask forgiveness for your sins.
Isaiah 1:18 - Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
SIXTH: Commit to being Christ's and declare that your entire life is Christ's.
Matthew 10:32 - So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,
SEVENTH: Have faith (believe) that God saves you by His grace.
Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
EIGHTH - Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God raised Him from the dead.
Romans 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
PRAYER
If you want to be saved, bow your head and sincerely speak this prayer out loud.
Heavenly Father, I want to be saved. I want to be born again and have a relationship with You. I know that I am a disobedient sinner who is guilty of breaking Your law and living in sin. I realize I cannot save myself, but I need a Saviour. I know I have nothing to offer You and can do nothing to be saved. Heavenly Father, I ask You to forgive me for being a sinner and for the sin and unholiness in my life. (Take a moment and list some things that come to your mind when you consider your past and think about your past sins and mistakes; ask God for forgiveness for those specific things.) Father, I believe in Jesus Christ as Your Son who came to be my Saviour. I believe Jesus suffered the total penalty for my sin and paid the complete price needed on the cross through His shed blood and death. Jesus, thank You for taking my sin upon Yourself so I might be forgiven and set free. Thank you, Jesus, for going to the cross, for dying, for being buried, and for giving Your life so that I might have life. I also believe that Jesus rose again from the dead and is alive. I turn away from my old life and turn to You. Jesus, I surrender my life to You. Jesus, come into my life and live inside me by Your Holy Spirit. Come in and make me a new creation. Jesus, as I need You as my Saviour, I also need You as my Lord who leads, guides and directs my life. I commit to serving and following You from this moment forward. Thank You, Father, for giving Your Son Jesus because of Your love. Thank You for forgiving me and giving me peace. Thank You that my sins are forgiven. Thank You that I am saved. Thank You, Father, for my redemption and for making me a new person. Thank You for bringing me into Your family and for giving me eternal life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
WHAT TO DO NOW
If you made this decision, you need to do a couple of things to continue to grow in your faith and as a Christian. This is undoubtedly a partial list, but it is some of the beginning steps.
Read the Bible Daily - An excellent place to start is with the Gospels of Jesus.
Pray Daily - Take time each day to pray to God. Remember, prayer is simply talking to God, speaking to Him about your life, asking Him for help, asking Him what to do, etc., and also taking time to listen to Him.
Tells Others - One of the best things you can do for your faith is to tell others about your faith and relationship with God.
Find a Church - Get into a good church. One that loves God, follows God, preaches and lives the Bible, and is not compromised. A good church can give you further instruction and understanding of these steps.
Get Water Baptized - Jesus instructs us to be Water baptized to identify with Him and His work on the cross.
Forsake Sin and Live For Christ - You are now saved, but there will be moments when desires and temptations will come. There may be things in your life that you recognize are not pleasing to God or incompatible with what the Bible says. We are not saved by what we do, but we should strive to live a life that pleases God and is compatible with His Word.
