Message: God's Servant Jesus from Isaiah 52:13-15

Here is a recent message from a series called Foundations of the Cross. A message series that starts in Isaiah 52 and looks at what Christ accomplished for us on the cross.

WHAT JESUS CHRIST ACCOMPLISHED ON THE CROSS.

Message Outline

INTRODUCTION

Verse - 1 Corinthians 1:18

The cross is the wisdom of God, the power of God manifested in such a way that it looks foolish to the unbelieving world. The foolishness of God is wiser than any of man’s wisdom.

Verses - Romans 1:16-17 and 1 Corinthians 2:2

The cross is God’s total provision for you and I. God made possible through the cross everything that we have need of. We either receive on the basis of the cross or we don’t receive anything.

MAIN PASSAGE

Verse - Isaiah 53:1-12 the closing verses of chapter 52 belong to chapter 53.

Verse - Isaiah 52:13-15 from verse 13 onward, we begin to see this portrayal of the suffering of Jesus Christ.

THE OFFICE OF CHRIST - JESUS IS GOD'S SERVANT.

Verse - Philippians 2:7

Jesus, King of Kings, Creator, God, Holy, Righteous, humbled Himself and took on the form of a servant and took on the limitations of humanity. This is so contrary to what we see in the natural desire and attitude in our world and humanity.

Verse - John 5:19

HOW CHRIST FULFILLED BEING A SERVANT FROM VERSE 13

HIS FAITHFULNESS - He was faithful in all things—never omitted one of the requirements of His Father; did all His will, and that perfectly. Verses - John 14:31 and John 8:29

HIS PASSION (ZEAL) – He was filled with passion to fulfill the work His Father called Him to do. Verses - John 4:34 and Hebrews 12:2

HIS PERSEVERANCE – He stayed on course, He preserved, He didn’t deviate, He never turned aside, but He endured the work. It is finished!

Application

Think about how it would change our homes or marriages, think about what it would do in our families if we were servants. How would it change us as parents if we took this into our relationships with our kids? How would it change or impact the church and our Christian life if this is how we served God?

THE SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST FROM VERSE 14

Jesus was beaten and tortured with such severity that He couldn’t be recognized as a human. Verses - Luke 22:63, Matthew 26:67-68, Matthew 27:26, Matthew 27:29, Isaiah 50:6, Psalms 22:16 and John 19:34

Jesus went to and faced the cross as a man. He experienced every strike, every cut, and every wound with the same intensity and experience as a man.

Cross - crucifixion spells death – if you identify by faith in what Jesus did on the cross then you (the old you) are dead. Verses - Galatians 2:20 and Romans 6:6-7

In Christianity, death is the door to life. The only path to fruitfulness in the Kingdom of God is dying. We cannot expect to experience Pentecost without first the cross. Are we really dead? Are we like Him? Do we think like Him? Do we act like Him? Do we love like Him?

Verses - Philippians 3:12 and 1 Corinthians 15:31

Jesus endured the cross with the strength and power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus walked, lived, and died in the strength and power of the Holy Spirit. We need the Spirit of God in our lives.

Salvation, victory, deliverance is not due to depending upon ourselves, but it comes by identifying by faith in the finished, complete and perfect work of the cross. This involves being born of the Spirit but also the Spirit of Christ living in us.

Application Verse - Philippians 4:13

THE COMING SAVIOUR TO THE WORLD FROM VERSE 15

To Sprinkle in the Old Testament means either to sprinkle with blood, as the high priest makes payment (makes sacrifice) Leviticus16 or with water, to purify (Ezekiel 36:25), both applicable to Jesus the Saviour.

New Testament Quote – Verse - Romans 15:20-21

The coming of the Saviour was not just for Israel but salvation is made available to all.

Paul preaching to the Gentiles was a fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy that the Gentiles who had never previously been evangelized would see.

The message of the cross is that it is available to all. The sprinkling of the blood of Jesus, the sprinkling of the water of the Holy Spirit, the washing, cleansing, the forgiveness, the peace with God, the new life, salvation is not just for a select group of people but is for each one of us.

CLOSING

Jesus took on the form of a servant, went through the work of the crucifixion, poured out His life, died, was buried, rose again, so that you and I can experience the salvation that He has for us, which includes forgiveness and cleansing, peace with God, dying to self, but being raised up and having God live inside and filling us with His Spirit.
