How To Be Strong In The Lord

The following is a message on what it means to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. It includes a video presentation of the sermon along with message notes.

INTRODUCTION - BE STRONG IN THE LORD

A. We will face the schemes (methods, wiles, trickery) of the devil

B. Our battle is not physical/natural but spiritual

C. We will have to resist in the evil day

D. There will be fiery arrows (darts that come against us

OTHER THOUGHTS

A. Not everything is our/your fault

B. One of the fiery darts of the enemy is guilt

C. Not everything that happens to us is the will of God

So why do evil or bad things happen?

-Tension of Freewill vs God’s Sovereignty

-Fallen/Sinful World (darkness of this world)

-We do make mistakes

-We have an enemy out to destroy us

TRUTH: We do not have the strength or power to overcome the enemy, his attacks or his ways.

OLD TESTAMENT TRUTH - GOD FIGHTS OUR BATTLES

3 Thoughts

-God is with you (us) - Joshua 1:5

-God is the one who fights your (our) enemies - 2 Chronicles 20:15 - the battle belongs

to the Lord.

-God fights to save you (us)

HOW CAN I BE STRONG IN THE LORD

FIRST - recognizing the strength needed is only from Christ - Philippians 4:13

WAIT ON GOD - Psalm 31:24 - Strength comes from waiting on God. Waiting is an activity of dependence, but also an activity of becoming intertwined and joined to the one you are waiting upon.

SEEK FOR IT - Psalm 105:4 - There is nothing humble or less spiritual about not seeking those things that God has given us.

Three aspects of seeking here:

- seek the Lord

- seek His strength (look for it to be revealed)

- seek for His continuous presence

THE WORD - Psalm 119:28 - The Word is Spirit and Life. The Word is a Revelation of God Himself. The Word teaches us to walk in strength. The Word gives us strength.

WALK UPRIGHTLY - Proverbs 10:29 - Many Christians give place to the attacks of the devil/evil/sin and don't walk in victory because they want to live with one foot in the world and one as a Christian.

TEACH IT TO THE UPCOMING GENERATIONS - Psalm 71:18 - Something being lost in the church is this passing of the torch (teaching/proclamation) from the older to the younger of the goodness and faithfulness of God.

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THROUGH HIS ORDAINED BODY - Psalm 84:1-7

No Christian is an island until themselves, and no Christian can stand alone in strength, and it is not Biblical.
