Who Was Cain's Wife? What the Bible Reveals

Here is a question that has been around for ages: who was Cain’s wife? If you’ve ever read through the book of Genesis, you’ve probably stumbled across this little mystery. In Genesis 4:17, we’re told Cain "knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch." But here’s the mystery—Cain’s wife’s name is nowhere to be found. Scholars and Bible historians have dug into the text and landed on a pretty solid conclusion: Cain’s wife in the Bible was likely one of his sisters or a close family member. Here's further thoughts related to this.

Who Was Cain's Wife? What the Bible Reveals

In Genesis 5:4, and you’ll see Adam, Cain’s dad, "had other sons and daughters" after Cain, Abel, and Seth. Adam and Eve lived a very long time. Adam lived for 930 years (check Genesis 5:5), giving them plenty of time to have many children. Since the Bible frames Adam and Eve as the starting point, where did Cain’s wife come from? Logically—she was one of their kids, probably a sister or potentially a niece. Back then, marrying close relatives wasn’t just accepted; it was how the population was built up. It wasn’t until later, with rules like those in Leviticus 18, that God outlined things differently.
